Arty journeys...

LITTLE ARTY JOURNEYS . . . LOOKING CLOSER, SEEING DEEPER.

Monday 1 October 2018

Sunny Monday morning walk October 1st (Coombe Wood)

It was a beautiful sunny morning, lovely and warm in the sun.

Sunlit flowerbeds.

Look at the way the light shines through these leaves.

Vine leaves.

Glorious colour. (I didn't notice the yew berries till I looked at my photos on the computer).

Fuchsias swinging about in the gentle breeze and bobbing up and down as bees searched for nectar.

Just look at those spirals at the base! I love the way the cyclamen flower stems unfurl.

Golden leaves and blue sky.

Deformed acorns - probably caused by gall wasps laying their eggs in the buds. There are a lot of them this year for some reason.

The pods on the Golden Rain Tree have turned copper coloured and there are several shiny black seeds the size of a small pea in each pod.

Looking across the prairie grasses.

Bees in the sunshine.

Japanese anemone.

These rattle in the breeze.

 Banana flowers.

Korean pine cones.

Palm leaves.

Love the criss cross patterns.

Callicarpa berries.

Candyfloss tree lit up like a burning bush. Katsura (Cercidiphyllaceae)

Sorry - quite a few Candyfloss Tree photos coming - I got a bit (very!) carried away. This tree is amazingly beautiful, specially with the sun shining through the the red and gold leaves.

I was joined by a friend. I loved the excuse to stay longer! We went straight back to the Candyfloss tree. White fluffy clouds had bubbled up but there were some breaks when the sun peeped through and lit the leaves up again.

Bees on cosmos flowers.

 Pnk cosmos and purple asters.

Another lot of tubular petalled cosmos have opened.

Asters.

Arching grasses.

 Tufty flowers.

Seeds forming.

Looking closer. So delicate.

We sat on a bench enjoying the warm sunshine. I had notice these leaves last time I was here and remembered to take a photo this time.

Layers - purple flowers on long stems in the foreground, pale grasses next and zebra grass at the back.

The gardener has started digging out the flowerbeds. He told us that this is happening later this year because delivery of the next plants was delayed. It will be interesting to see what gets planted next. Will it be the same as last autumn or will there be variations?

It's a shame these are being dug out - the bees are still enjoying them.

Red berries and turning leaves.

Thank you very much for joining me.
