Arty journeys...

LITTLE ARTY JOURNEYS . . . LOOKING CLOSER, SEEING DEEPER.

The Sketchpack Challenge (part 1 - the first 12 days)

I have been taking part in the Sketchpack Project on Facebook for several years. This is an annual  event which takes place each August, organised by Di Metcalf. It's "a sketching initiative open to anyone who wishes to visually record their days during this month."The options are to collect "a flipflap page-a-day journal" (concertina fold "book") from Artsauce (in South Africa) or post the daily drawings online. There are also instructions for how to make your own flipflap page-a-day journal. The sketchpacks are returned to Artsauce at the end of August and are exhibited there during October.

My drawings this year are 3.5 cms square - a life size natural object drawn in black and white (right side of each photo). Two people suggested they would make good tiles so I have photographed and flipped the drawings to make tiled squares (left).

Day 1. Part of a sycamore seed

Day 2 Something that grew from birdseed under the birdfeeder

Day 3 Iron Cross Oxalis leaf

Day 4 Unidentified weed

Day 5. Feather

Day 6. Himalayan honeysuckle berries

Day 7. Tradescantia leaves (houseplant in this country)

Day 8. Trailing plant I found in the garden

Day 9 Iron Cross Oxalis flower partially eaten by insects

Day 10. The back of a cosmos flower

Day 11. Another weed found in our garden

Day 12. Growth from an acorn planted by a squirrel.

I have also tried putting the tiles closer together (displayed on my cutting mat).

Thank you very much for joining me.

  3. Angela these tiles are exquisite! You should become a tile maker! How incredible that a small sketch makes such a beautiful design when flipped and placed together. Your gift is fantastic!!
