Arty journeys...

LITTLE ARTY JOURNEYS . . . LOOKING CLOSER, SEEING DEEPER.

Friday 25 May 2018

Catching up - Tuesday morning - Coombe Wood walk in lovely sunshine.

When I arrived on Tuesday morning, the gardener was hard at work clearing plants from another of the lower flower beds.

Delicate little lilac stars.

Many more cistus (rock rose) flowers opening.

Crumpled petals in the sun.

Irises

Bee rummaging through the Ceanothus flowers - pollen grains on its body and legs.

Another bee - on a pink cistus

I got quite carried away with the beauty of these - taking close ups of several different ones....

Wide open with anthers having dropped from the filaments - centre splayed out like a pink fountain.

Purple anthers and twisted centre.

Centre tightly together.

White opaque pollen grains visible in the dark anthers.

Cistus illuminated by the sun.

Yellow Poppy.

Purple allium flowers dropping and big green seed pods forming. Bees are still busily gathering the remaining nectar.

Other allium varieties preparing to burst open and amaze.

 Daisies.

A bank of rhododendrons and azaleas.

The smaller pink shrubs are such a wonderful mix of delicious colours.

The buds are dark raspberry and the open flowers are a blend of pale lemon, peach, sugar pink and cream.

Some lilac blooms lean forward from behind and mingle with the creamy pinks.

Yellow iris - delicately marked.

Sunlit plants and bee

Acer seeds in the sun.

Palm flowers like the lobes of lungs!

Buds like sweetcorn.

Higher up each lobe the tight buds are opening and stamens are surrounding the lobe - making them look a bit fluffy.

The banana plant has several new shoots showing among the straw around the base.

Ferns in the sun.

Purple leaves and buds.

Pink striped bells in the sun.

Fern taking over from the little lily of the valley plants underneath.

I sat for a while breathing in the gorgeous scent of the yellow azaleas.

As they drop down and hang like ballet-dancers the scent seems to be thicker in the air - positively dripping from the flowers.

Tall tree - big leaves sprouting - wonderful pinky lilac fluted flowers.

Pink azalea - no visible stamens - just a stigma like a little bright green bead.

These are tiny and their stamens etc. are almost flourescent pink.

Peaches and cream.

Weigela flowers

Tree peony seed pods and dried up stamens. Each pod has a little red bit on the tip that look like a little heart, dusted with sugar around the edges.

All sortsof tiny white flowers - many start off as pink buds and turn white as they open

Closer

Weigela again - hint of a very delicate pink tint.

Creamy white flowers.

Strange red flowers.

The peonies will open soon.

Big allium.

Wild flowers

Yellow rattle - I think they looks like eggs with little chicks coming out.

A flock of dark smaller alliums.

Photographer setting up.

And once again I got carried away and took rather a lot of photos of the last of the tulips.

Yellow petals ousing out of these.

A perfect little pop of orange.

A veil of green and white.

These leaves look as if they have been dipped in paint.

And the gardener was still working hard clearing the flower beds.

Thank you very much for joining me.
