Arty journeys...

LITTLE ARTY JOURNEYS . . . LOOKING CLOSER, SEEING DEEPER.

Sunday 9 September 2018

Two walks Tuesday and Friday (Coombe Wood)

I'm in the middle of sorting out and packing, getting ready for moving. No date yet but hopefully soon. I still managed to squeeze in two walks this week.

WALK 1 Tuesday morning.

Cyclamen behind the mesh fence in the car park.

The gardener was busy cutting hedges.

Flower beds overflowing.

Hanging baskets overflowing too.

The swelling grapes are weighing the branches down over the "Welcome to Coombe Wood" sign.

Colourful prairie beds

I always stop to admire these - so dainty!

Golden Rain Tree pods changing colour.

Grasses.

Banana flower - big fleshy petals curling back.

Korean pine cones disintegrating, shedding seeds.

 Candyfloss Tree turning red.

Herbaceous borders - abundance!

Having a closer look at the sunflowers.

Cosmos with funnel shaped petals - amazing!

A river of yellow flowing through the border.

Two bees.

Another look at the Golden Rain Tree - the lower pods are changing colour but the higher ones are still lime green against the darker leaves.

Yellow, orange and red in the top flower bed.

A very fluffy bee with a big pollen sac.

Not so fluffy.

Beautiful structure.

 And these red flowers emerge.

A few photos taken while wandering around the lower flower beds near the gate.

Delicate pastel blue.

These buds are very tight and neat, the open flowers are incredibly shaggy.

Bee (or hover fly) peeping over these flowers.

WALK 2

It felt rather autumnal on Friday morning. Low sun through glittering spiders webs.

Sunlight illuminating peachy flowers.

A number of foreign students poured in through the gate - I was surprised to see so many of them lighting up cigarettes. I headed the other way pausing to take a photo as the food delivery truck parked the other side of the fence.

Sunlight on the prairie plants.

Some of the Golden Rain Tree pods have opened and are showing their dark glossy seeds. (The gardener has a seedling he is going to let me have for our new garden.)

Higher up the tree the pods are still green and looked fabulous against the blue sky.

Just one photo of the Thalictrum. A friend has said she has a spare one I can have for my new garden. I'm doing well for new plants but I will need to find out what is already there. I know there are snowdrops and I certainly don't want to disturb them! I love snowdrops.

Grasses.

Bee drinking.

Grass seeds.

Pokeweed - pink stems, dark berries and leaves turning.

Some sort of maize (?)- these rattle in the breeze

Tiny snail.

It popped out for a walk but was having some balance issues.

The gardener told me that when a plant grows flattened stems or flowers it's called fasciation.

Banana leaves

Candyfloss tree lit by the sun.

Acer - leaf tips just beginning to turn.

Spindle berries opening.

Cornus

The other spindleberries are a different shape and not anywhere near opening yet.

Anemones

The funnel petalled cosmos again.

 Red sunflowers.

Gorgeous veined bell shaped Abutilon

Red (almost chocolate!) sunflower with a bee.

Antirrhinums and little wafting grasses.

A piece which has fallen from one of the trees by the pond - and a chance for a much closer look.

 Hops

 Grapes and figs.

Thank you very much for joining me.
