Arty journeys...

LITTLE ARTY JOURNEYS . . . LOOKING CLOSER, SEEING DEEPER.

Friday 9 March 2018

A welcome Friday morning walk in Coombe Wood

It's been longer then usual since my last walk in Coombe Wood for various reasons. I really needed a breath of fresh air this morning - and a gentle walk.

Lovely to see the daffodils opening by the gate.

These plants have spread enough to hide most of the soil now and are flowering well.

Tulip leaves are just beginning to pop up inbetween.

Hellebore

Dried papery petals from last year.

The grass around the prairie beds is looking very green.

Daffodils

Crocuses (love this colour!)

and these delicate lilac ones.

I saw the snowdrops in the grass by the path being trampled by children's feet during half term. They have recovered surprisingly well.

I got a bit carrried away by these crinkly and unruly grassy seed heads.

A drift of snowdrops looked as if they had spilled out of the little hut and flowed down the bank.

Clumps of daffodils - not open yet.

I love the veins on this crocus - aren't they exquisite?

Purple crocuses pushing up among pure white snowdrops.

Bunches of red berries on the ground - possibly knocked down from the trees by whoever has been nibbling them.

Tiny green buds and old seed cases from last year.

Looking up the hill between the trees - no chance of me getting up there today - feeling too fragile!

More gorgeous snowdrops.

A clump of hellebores with their faces turned upwards for a change.

Green shoots of hydrangea leaves among the old skeletonized flowers from last year.

The gardener was working in the herbaceous border.

Azalea buds and old seed pods.

More buds - this shrub is covered in them.

Mistletoe surrounded by the new buds on the tree - as the buds grow the mistletoe will become less and less visible.

Cheerful primulas.

Quince flowers (?)

Tiny sapphire blue flowers.

Thank you very much for joining me.
