What a change! (Coombe Wood - Thursday morning)

After a lovely run of mild November days with just a few chillier days, this morning was cold and frosty.

As I arrived I could hear a machine in the background. At first I thought it was the leaf blower but caught sight of the gardener in the distance with a long handled cutting tool. He was working in the herbaceous border.

The pond was extremely clear. I could see the willow leaves that have sunk to the bottom.

Little burnt orange acer by the pond.....it was a bright fiery orange cascade not long ago.

Frosty prairie beds.

It always surprises me to see buds at this time of year! I imagine buds to be a spring thing.

There were still patches of frost on the grass as I walked towards the woods....

...past this colourful corner.

I love the patterns on these leaves. The flowers were upright last time I saw them - now every one of thems is dangling down, affected by the frost.

A few lower leaves left on this tree - the rest carpeting the ground.

The taller acer is bare - this little red one underneath has a few leaves left.

The gardener has obviously been very busy with the leaf blower and not just on the main pathways. He has cleared a lot of the smaller paths too.

The Witch Hazel trees still has some leaves.

A little futher along - a wonderful mix of fallen leaves.

Very orange!

The spindleberries are at their best at the moment.

Wheelbarrow

The gardener has been working in the herbaceous border cutting down all of the plants that have finished now.

Frosty plants further along.

The gardener has cleared most of the fallen leaves from the grass - just a few freshly fallen leaves remain.

Passing the wheelbarrow again from the other side.

Hops.

Back to the pond.

Thank you very much for joining me.

Friday morning walk at Coombe Wood

A dull damp Friday morning.

I don't understand why these leaves are either green or red and there are hardly any that are in between the two colours.

Glossy red Berberis berries

The little acer that was lit up by the sun the other day still looks amazing on a dull morning.

From a different angle. The callicarpa berries on the right in the background look like purple smoke.

Stunningly colourful path and the plants each side are draped with a blanket of leaves too.

The colours were so beautiful!

 Little red acer

I couldn't resist some taking some more photographs under this little tree. These leaves may have all fallen before my next visit.

While I was by the red acer I heard voices coming from the path among the trees. I spotted two men (tree surgeons) and wandered along for a look.

They had a rope attached quite high up the tree. After I had gone further along the path I heard a loud cracking noise but couldn't see what was happening. I couldn't see from further round either - there were too many trees in the way. It was too slippery for me to go up and round, and not safe with my balance difficulties, so I'll have to have to see if I can remember to have a look next time.

Rubbish?

Red leaves.

It was quite a brisk walk this morning. The temperature has dropped and will be even colder next week - I will definitely need to wear something thicker next time!

Thank you very much for joining me.

Tuesday morning walk in November sunshine (Coombe Wood)

Another beautiful November morning...

 By the pond.

 Around the corner.

Little footprints.

The acer at the top of the steps - leaves almost all on the ground underneath.

Mainly winged seeds left now.

Golden rain tree pods in the sun.

The gardener was clearing leaves from the grass with the leaf blower.

The gardener and I went over to look at the little acer nearby, which was beautifully lit up by the sun.

Callicarpa berries - deep purple pearls so visible now there are barely any leaves left.

Into the wooded area. Foliage thinning letting more light in.

The taller orangey acer hasn't got many leaves left on it now whereas the red one underneath has barely lost any.

Looking at the dark red one - fallen orange leaves resting on the red ones

I got really carried away looking through the red leaves from underneath. I love the overlapping layers and the shadows.

Winged seeds and a few leaves on the taller acer.

On the path.

Orangey acer from underneath.

Thinning trees against the blue sky.

Shadows through a golden leaf.

Fiery red acer laden with winged seeds.

Spndleberries.

Poke berries

The big beech tree.

Beech leaves.

A few leaves dangling and waving in the light breeze.

Liquid Amber Tree - the amber colour does seem to be trickling down the tree from the top.

Lovely miniature splashes of colour.

Grapes.

Hops.

 Back to the pond.

Rich autumnal colours changing as the light changes.

Thank you very much for joining me.
